Dying hair while pregnant?

With every doctor I've seen in each of my pregnancies (totalling 5 pregnancies and 8 doctors) I was always told that their has been no conclusive studies to prove that dying your hair while pregnant causes any harm to the baby. Yesterday I got into a bit of an argument because my cousin who is also pregnant insists that you can not dye your hair while pregnant, I told her how I was told by 8 different doctors that there is no proof that dying your hair is a risk but my cousin is arrogant and always has to be right - even when she knows she's wrong she'll never go back on what she originally said. So I was wondering what everyone else has been told about the misconception of dying your hair while pregnant puts the baby at risk. (oh and by the way I continued to dye my hair in every one of my pregnancies, at least twice with each one, and all of my kids are 100% healthy)

Dying hair while pregnant?

I would like to know the answer to this one also. I didn't know I was pregnant at the time of dying my hair. I am still in the early stages so I don't know if it has done any harm or not. (I pray it hasn't)

Dying hair while pregnant?

it's safe as long as you are in an open area so you aren't breathing in the fumes. that's mostly the only concern with dying your hair is the fumes. i dyed my hair a few times while pregnant. every dr and ever hair stylist i've come across say's it's safe! some women just want to be extra extra extra careful with every single thing and sit in a big bubble until their baby is born!

it will not get into your bloodstream especially if you do it right and don't touch your head at all with the dye!

Im With You On This One I Dye My Hair Every 6-8 Weeks Out Of Boredum And My OBGYN And My Doctor Told Me It Would Be Fine If I Wasn't Planning On Eating It LOL

Dying hair while pregnant?

i am the same as you, there is no proof and ive done it 3 times during my pregnancy and so far everything looks good. My dr said it was ok to do, the ladys at the hair salon said it was perfectly fine and my fiances mother who is a RN said dying your hair is fine, its perming and chemically straightening your hair that is considered bad. i just think to myself...those people that think its bad dont have to dye their hair....but if im going to do it they cant stop me.

Dying hair while pregnant?

I've heard all sort of things about chemicals seeping into your body and blah blah blah blah blah but my doctors have told me the same thing as yours... nothing conclusive. What could be harmful is the FUMES because I think they could POTENTIALLY leave deposits in your baby's placenta or some something like that. But I've dyed my hair twice (once at the salon and one with an ammonia-free at home application) and the doctor said it was ok, just not to over-do it. Just go out and have fun with your hair!!!

My doctor said that breathing in the chemicals or having them directly on your head for too long could cause certain "triggers" if you are already pron to a problem. I did dye my hair when I was pregnant but wore a cloth mouth cover so I didn't breath it in due to lupus problems in the family that can be triggered by the chemicals. Most people don't have any problem what so ever but as with anything there are the one in a million that it does cause problems with. The studies now aren't clear but it is recommended by most doctors (3 for my son who is now 8months old and 1 for my current pregnancy) not to do anything involving strong chemicals.

Dying hair while pregnant?

I've never heard anything bad about dying your hair while you're pregnant. I read most docs say to wait until after the first trimester because that's when the baby is more prone to defects. But they haven't proved that it can really do any harm. Your cousin sounds like a brat, sorry. But in this case I would say you're both right and both wrong. I wouldn't dye my hair, the fumes would make me sick.

Dying hair while pregnant?

The last time I was told that was with the pregnacy of my first child in 1990! This misconception goes with not lifting your arms above your head or you'll rap the cord around the neck of the child. It is an old wives tail. But you know if she does not want to dye her hair it really does not matter, her hair, her baby. Lots of people follow "old lady advice" and it makes them feel better.

Dying hair while pregnant?

I asked my doctor and he told me that there isnt any proof it will do anything. Some people have heard some misinformation and they swear to it on they're dieing day. I went as far as to ask the hair dresser and contact the company that made the dye, (they were very nice and informative by the way) alls I was told was that there arent any studies that prove it can hurt the baby, but they recommend that when you get your hair highlighted leave a small amount of root unsaturated. (that was my hairdressers advice) but I told her to just do like normal and I have 2 children and they are fine!

Don't eat it and Don't get high on the fumes!

I'm curious as to how else it would get into your bloodstream? If your cousin believes it can seep through your head, then you'd better not be using any shampoos, soaps, or lotions while you are pregnant either! LOL!

Dying hair while pregnant?

I died my hair red all throughout my first pregnancy and I was highlighting my hair all through my second. I had full-term, normal pregnancies and very healthy babies. My doctor, too (during both pregnancies), said there was no legitimate reason to not color my hair. She just advised me to not breath the fumes, so I simply placed a towel over my face if the smell bothered me. Your cousin sound like a know-it-all. Ignore her.

Dying hair while pregnant?

It gets absorbed into your bloodstream! I wouldn't risk that, I'm waiting till I have my child to dye my hair!
