Why do 'emo' kids tend to deny their being emo?

I know a lot of people that one would classify as being 'emo'. You know, the hair over one eye, the thick, black eyeliner, the weird necklaces and wristbands, the band shirts, the super-tight jeans, the Converses. Yeah, emo kids. You know the type.

What is interesting, is that if I'm just joking around and call one of them 'emo', they get defensive and say "I'm not emo!". I'm sorry, but yes, you are.

If emo kids don't want to be percieved as being emo, why do they go to so much trouble to appear misunderstood, misguided and consistantly upset?

Can someone please enlighten me? Thanks.

Why do 'emo' kids tend to deny their being emo?

ok say you're fat. would you admit you're fat? just a metaphore. and dont stereotype emos. they're just humans in a bad time of their lives.

Why do 'emo' kids tend to deny their being emo?

its not that

when people ask that, theyre not just talking about the fashion, theyre talking about the whole stereotype

cutting,suicide,crying

why would an emo kid want to say yes to that? just because they dress the part, they dont have to act it, which is why the would say no. Report It

Why do 'emo' kids tend to deny their being emo?

exactly we dont all cut and cry and want to die so when one associates emo w/ us we have to get all defensive if you say your emo ppl think you are a cutter, i hate stereotypes Report It

Why do 'emo' kids tend to deny their being emo?

Because we'll be accused of posing. If you're emo you don't need to say it. You just are. If someone walks around saying they're emo all the time, they're obviously a poser. That's why we deny it even though it's obvious that we are emo. Report It
